With so much to see and do on Amelia Island, it’s hard to know where to start. To take in all of the sights and history that Amelia Island has to offer, look no further than Amelia River Cruises.

Amelia River Cruises offers five different cruises:

The Cumberland Island Tour, while on the longer side, is undoubtedly the most rewarding, scenic and informative of the five. The 78 passenger vessel is shaded, handicap accessible and has a bathroom onboard.

The tour is narrated and sets sail with two licensed boat captains on each journey. Mark, one of the captains on board, talked about how unique Amelia River Cruises are.

“We are the only boat cruise in the area that gets underway with two licensed captains,” he says. “And each captain has his own style of narrating.”

Mark delivers detailed history and anecdotes about Cumberland Island. It’s not uncommon to see wild dolphins, horses, manatees and other animals on the cruise. Although not on the shore, Mark will also point out the ruins of Dungeness, the Scottish mansion that belonged to Thomas and Lucy Carnegie–Mark has tons of great stories about Lucy!

The Shrimping Eco Tour also comes highly recommended by Mark.

“Amelia Island is the birthplace of modern shrimping,” he says. “The Shrimping Eco Tour goes more in-depth on shrimping history and methods. We even put out a shrimp net on the tour and let the kids get involved.”

And Mark has no intention of going anywhere.

“My family has been living on Amelia Island since the 1930s,” he says. “I’ve been doing this for four years, and I love it.”

Let Amelia River Cruises be your key to Amelia Island’s storied past and present.
